Evenings with Authors: Lisa Scottoline

October 28, 2010

Whether you’re a fan of her mysteries, legal thrillers, or her “Chick Wit” column – you won’t want to miss Thurber House’s final Evenings with Authors of the 2010 season when New York Times bestselling author, Lisa Scottoline (along with her daughter Francesca), share tales from their latest anthology of sweet and kooky essays, My Nest Isn’t Empty, It Just Has More Closet Space.

Perhaps best known for her Rosato & Associates legal thrillers, Scottoline’s novels are wildly popular with over 9 millions copies in print. She is an Edgar Award winner for her second novel, Final Appeal.  She also writes for the Philadelphia Inquirer, where her “Chick Wit” column runs on Sundays, and is occasionally written by her daughter, Francesca. These columns have served as fodder for her two bestselling books of nonfiction, Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog, and the latest, My Nest Isn’t Empty, It Just Has More Closet Space – which is a clever compilation from two generations of women reflecting on family, love, dessert, and everything in between!

Lisa and Francesca will be reading on Wednesday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door, with discounts for students and seniors. Tickets are available online at www.thurberhouse.org, or by calling 614-464-1032 x. 11.

Evenings with Authors: James L. Swanson

October 4, 2010

“A haunting masterpiece.”

The New York Times

Join Thurber House for an evening of murder, suspense, fallen leaders, and cross-country chases at our next Evenings with Authors featuring James L. Swanson. New York Times bestselling author of Manhunt, Swanson comes to Thurber House to read from his latest book, Bloody Crimes: The Chase for Jefferson Davis and the Death Pageant of Lincoln’s Corpse.

Bloody Crimes follows the journeys of two fallen leaders –one vilified and marked for vengeance; one revered and mourned. In April of 1865 Abraham Lincoln is assassinated, and Jefferson Davis –president of the Confederacy– is accused of conspiring with John Wilkes Booth on the murder. As Lincoln’s corpse makes its way from Washington D.C. to Springfield, Illinois, the hunt is on for Davis.  In Bloody Crimes, Swanson intertwines the story of Davis’s capture and the journey to Lincoln’s final resting place.

Born on Lincoln’s birthday, Swanson has studied and collected artifacts about the 16th President since he was ten years old. Along with Bloody Crimes and Manhunt Swanson has authored two illustrative history books for young adults.

An Author’s Table Dinner is available with Swanson before the event. Deadline for dinner is Friday, October 8 by 4:00 p.m. For more information visit www.thurberhouse.org or call Anne Touvell at 614-464-1032 x 10.

Swanson will be reading on Tuesday, October 12th at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Avenue. Tickets are $18 presale and $20 at the door with discounts available for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available online at www.thurberhouse.org, or call 614-464-1032 x11
